Vicksburg, Mississippi, 1863

caves_cannon_cover1a_smGreetings. My name is Elizabeth (Lizzie) Stamford. I’m 14 and live in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Our city is under siege, and I fear for my brothers’  lives. In these pages I will tell our story. At least when I am able to find paper to write on. And when the cannons are quiet, so I can think.

Now, the noise is deafening. Cannons hurl mortar shells at us from the ships on the Mississippi. Rifles fire from the hills. We are surrounded. There is no place to hide.

The cave  suffocates me. Mama moved Nat and me to this underground burrow when a mortar shell struck my bedroom right above the bed. Why Mama believes it is safe, I do not comprehend.

Please, come back when the day is brighter.

Our story must be told.

I’ve added blurbs from some of my reviews. If you want to hear what people are saying, hop over to the Review Page. Or walk, whichever you prefer.

You can learn more about Caves, Cannons, and Crinolines at Twilight Times Books or Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Good News. My story placed fourth in the Preditors & Editors Reading Poll. My writer says this means we have some very nice friends. Thank you to all who voted for my book.

My writer recently had some book signings. Here she is. in her new dress. The photograph is so different from the ones taken during

my  time. This one shows the color of hair and clothing.

Willie would love it. I hope you enjoy it too.

I have to read this. I’ve always been fascinated by this period in our history and it seems Lizzie will bring it to life for me.

Hi, C. Lee. The Civil War era is my favorite time period in history. I have a whole library of CW books. Thanks for your interest in Lizzie’s story. :)

Thanks, Nancy. I’m excited about this book. Been doing so much promotion-setting up signings, sending for reviews, entering contests, placing ads, etc. that I’ve terribly neglected visiting people’s blogs. Hope to settle down soon. :)

Congrats again on your book. I love that little boy, scratching his head.

      Have a good weekend.

I’d rather live in a cave with ROUS’s than wear a crinoline petticoat!!!!!

      Hi Sherry,

Thanks for stopping by. Caves won the popularity contest over crinolines. I thought it was fun reading everyone’s ideas.

Congratulations on your book. I visited your site and wish you the best.

Elizabeth, I loved your story. I can’t wait to share it with others when I write my review and visit North Carolina next month.

Thank you, Cheryl. I’m so happy you loved my story. It is very dear to me, as well. Such a senseless waste of life, as are most wars I suppose. It makes family all the more precious.

I look forward to reading your review. Have a wonderful visit to North Carolina.

Thank you, Donna. And thanks again for the great review. It’s always scary when someone reads about you. Will they like you? Will they understand what you’re saying? You captured me exactly right. My parents would agree with you.
